Preventive Measures on your Smartphone from Theft or Loss

It is a LAMENTABLE fact that cell phones are the main targets of thieves - and also very easy to leave behind in many places. As we currently have pretty much everything on our Smartphones, having it stolen or misplaced may seem like the end of the world. But here are some preparations you can make before the worst happens, and what to do if it happens.

Enable Remote Tracking
Whether it's Android or iPhone, your phone has a built-in tool that allows you to monitor it from the web or another device.

On Android, it's called Find My Device:

Settings > Security / Location > Enable

On iOS, it's called Find My iPhone:

1. Settings > [your name]> iCloud. If you are using iOS 10.2 or earlier, Settings > iCloud.
2. Scroll to the end and tap Find my iPhone.
3. Slide to activate Find my iPhone and Send last location.

These tools make it possible to track your device, clean your smartphone, and more. However, in order to have access to these features it is necessary that they be activated in advance.

Lock Screen Protection
It is always recommended to use some kind of lock on the mobile phone so that all the data stored on it is protected, since people commonly have several app on their mobile device, among them are Facebook, Instragram, Whatsapp, Internet Banking, E- mail, among many other sources of confidential data, so the only barrier between the malicious person and his data is this block screen.

The current devices come with several types of lock, such as PIN, Digital Print, Face Unlock and etc. It should be noted that this lock does not prevent you from using the tools provided by Find My Device / iPhone.

You can find these options under Security and Location in Android Settings or Face ID and Password (or touch ID and password) in iOS Settings.
Backup your Data
The backup is recommended not only in case of being robbed or simply losing the device, but also in case the smartphone simply stops working. This backup would basically store in another location all the data that exists inside your device, it is currently using a lot of Cloud, like this other place where you get duplicate your data.

Operating Systems already do this backup almost alone, requiring only that the user activate this function. On Android, the activation site can vary greatly between handsets, but the latest handsets already allow the user to perform the search for that function, so just search for BACKUP.

On iOS:

STEP 1. Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.
STEP 2. Settings > [Your Name]> iCloud . In iOS 10.2 or earlier, Settings > iCloud.

STEP 3. Backup of iCloud . In iOS 10.2 or earlier, Backup.
STEP 4. Backup now.

If your device is stolen or lost, these are the three main preventative measures.
